What the fuck has happened!
Like many, I’m not getting carried away with our current form, been a hammer since ’65 so have been let down so many times, but right now it is an absolute joy to watch our club.
Watching it on TV (sadly) here in Oman, Hoddle was a guest pundit in a show hosted by Keys and Gray (it’s a good show to be fair) and he summed up how you play Carroll in your side perfectly.
Cross balls from inside the 18 yard box line with pace and Carroll is a handful all night long and will score consistently, punt the ball up to him from short of the box line and he’s far less effective.
He’s not a holding player in that sense and can’t lay off as effectively as some other big strikers can.
So BFS or the coaching staff as a whole have found the answer – they brought in Song and two very good attacking full backs who can get wide and cross very effectively.
Song’s the key. Have you seen a finer player in a WH shirt apart perhaps Brooking or Devonshire in their prime?
He must be an absolute bastard to play against, he knocks you about, has tremendous balance, terrific with either feet and he’s got that skill of letting the ball go across him giving him space to play at his pace. Combine that with that 5 yard zip he has to simply brush past an opponent and we’ve got a truly world class player here.
Can we keep him – fuck knows – but I hope so.
Add to that Downing who has seemed to have found something in his game + about another 5 miles of running each game. What a difference the lad is making.
Sakho – well he’s just different class altogether. Where / how the fuck did we find him.
BFS got it tactically spot on in the last 15 by bringing Collins on – it closed the gate, class move from him.
Watching it on TV you get some obvious close up’s of the players reactions etc and the one thing above all else that struck me, that we haven’t seen for a long long time, was that they really seem to care if a move, a pass, a build up etc goes wrong.
Sounds fucking daft, but there’s a team spirit there we haven’t seen for donkeys. There’s a determination and a spark about the players and it’s fucking brilliant to see.
Should we have a go at signing the lad up front for Swansea, Bony? He’d make a great addition and give us even more options up front. I think he’d come if the price was right. The other big clubs (not saying we’re one of them right now) wouldn’t see him as a real value adding addition, but fuck me we would.
Went 1-0 down & we started scuffing it a bit for five minutes but then got re-composed and ending up stuffing them out of site. When was the last time a Hammer’s side was capable of that?
BFS? Deserving of a lot of credit right now. Has the backroom staff + Sheringham behind the scenes enabled him to turn our team around – obviously, but I’m starting to get a grudging admiration for him now.

I went to my first game at UP in 1968.
We have had some good sides over the years and this is one of the best, as everyone says, but the more important point is that it has been a very long time since we had an exciting team. It has been a long wait.

Well I'll be fucking some old boots of mine that are old but we are third in December, not September after 3 games, but December after 15 games. I know it will all come crashing down around our ears and I admit as an original grumpy old man when Bony scored yesterday I thought 'here we go' but I was wrong again.
We also have Carroll, Sakho, Valencia, Zarate and Cole as our forwards, they have all scored this season. 5 forwards at West Ham, I remember the days when we just had Ian Pearce up front.
I am a bit stumped as to what to make of it at the moment but that goal by Sakho yesterday reminded me of a McAvennie effort against Everton back in 85, i think. Lets be honest if Rooney or anyone from the scousers had controlled a flick on his chest beaten the defender and smashed it in like that then we wouldn't hear the fucking end of it would we. Aah, it feels good to moan about something.

Enjoying it while is lasts but not getting too excited that this is the dawn of a new era.
Can't see much investment in Jan due to the FFP constraints and investment in the Summer will depend on where we finish.
A good season will see the vultures circling to tempt our best players away in a similar situation to what Southampton faced. The offers of transfer fees and big salaries may well attract players to other clubs and you can't keep players who want to go.
We will have to deal with out of contract players, loan players leaving and no doubt some bigger demands from those willing to stay.
I'd love a top 6 finish this year which would be an incredible achievement for a club with our budget and just reward for the players, board and manager. Still a long way to go and I plan on celebrating heavily every victory which moves us closer to achieving it.
I've waited nearly 30 years to watch a side I can really believe in and I think my wait is nearly over. December is a huge month given we lose some key players to the African Nations debacle early next year. Loving it and not being the butt of jokes at work from glory supporters puts a smile on my face.

I have been saying for years that Allardyce is a disaster and has to go.
But he's earned the right to be reconsidered, even by the die-hard 'Allardyce Out' brigade, like me.
He's a had a bit of luck too - no other team I can think of has brought in 6 new players over the Summer and had them all earn a first team starting place - but he's also adapted his own style and listened to the criticism of his long ball philosophy.
Even at 60 you're not too old to change.

great post yarmouth. particularly your point about watching on tv. we get almost all west hams games in sydney and have also noticed the faces/reactions/expressions etc of the players. this season/squad are as tight as i've seen any team. it's fucking brilliant!!!

I reckon we are one of the big clubs and about to get bigger.
The OS will help cement that position. Imagine 54,000 people packed in there week after week, watching us turn it on.
We are bigger that half the clubs in the Premiership and in the shadow of just a few being Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool at the moment and that has the potential of changing post our move.

We should stay in the upper regions of the league quite simply because we now have better players than the majority of the other clubs. The summer made all the difference. You don't have a 4 month purple patch, we are now a good side.
